Understand the Benefits of the BIBS® (Blow-In Blanket) Insulation System

Education

We’ve enjoyed sharing this ongoing education series about insulation basics, helping you become more educated about building science. To review, this is what we’ve covered so far:

  • The Science of Insulation – How insulation works, focusing on key elements such as the thermal envelope, pressure boundary, moisture issues, and heat transfer.

Now, let’s talk about your insulation options for a home. There are four primary choices: Fiberglass batt insulation, spray foam insulation, wet spray cellulose insulation, and BIBS® (Blow-In Blanket). We find BIBS to be superior and will publish a blog, next month, comparing BIBS against the other main types of insulation. Today, let’s explore the benefits of BIBS!

Overview of BIBS®

BIBS is a proprietary, trademarked, high-performance insulation system which incorporates dense-packed fiberglass blown into walls, floors, attics and cathedral ceilings, including metal buildings and other applications behind our trademarked printed BIBS® fabric.

It is installed by blowing specially manufactured fiberglass wools, which are high-performance and very dense. The wools are held in place by a proprietary fabric. This means BIBS® differs from other insulation in that it forms a seamless “blanket” around wires, pipes, or other obstructions, creating a custom, seamless insulation system unlike any other.

Benefits of BIBS

There are eight reasons by BIBS is our preferred insulation system.

  1. Higher Efficiency R-Values

BIBS is a higher density fibrous insulation system that delivers higher R-Values, saving you energy and money and can be perfectly installed in all conditions. Learn more about R-Values, here.

  1. Reduced Air Infiltration

National laboratory tests show that BIBS reduces air infiltration up to 68% over conventional batt-type insulation, providing more comfort.

  1. Excellent Sound Control

BIBS completely fills around objects inside the wall cavity, resulting in excellent sound control.

  1. Non-Settling

BIBS does not settle. The unique process of injecting the fiber behind a dust-free mesh eliminates settling.

  1. Safety

BIBS is naturally nonflammable, does not support the growth of mold, and contains no added formaldehyde.

  1. Improved Indoor Air Quality

In construction with continuous air barriers that are properly installed and sealed, BIBS will reduce pathways for moisture, outdoor allergens, pollutants and pests.

  1. Certified Installation and Trusted Performance

BIBS must be installed by a BIBS-certified contractor to guarantee proper installation of all components of the system, resulting in performance you can trust.

  1. Recycled Content

In addition to its energy-saving and custom-fitting qualities, BIBS incorporates fiberglass made with 39% or greater recycled content.

Why Builders Choose BIBS

As a homebuilder, you will enjoy many benefits by including a BIBS system in your build. Not only will you set yourself apart from your competition, but you will also enjoy a better profit margin, better overall home performance, and increased visibility as an energy conscientious builder.

Why Homeowners Choose BIBS

Homeowners love BIBS for the added comfort and lower utility bills it provides. They enjoy living in a safe and healthy home, and appreciate the great ROI and resale value. BIBS pays for itself!
